This immediately brought to mind the psychology concept of intolerance of uncertainty (IU), which has been linked to anxiety for decades but more recently to autism. The paradox for autism is that, although autistic people tend to prefer routine and familiarity, there's also the well-documented special interest phenomenon, where autistic people engage in intellectual pursuits with deep, compulsive focus. I'm starting to wonder if the twin of IU is a a desire to dispel uncertainty through intellectual discovery -- in other words, that disliking uncertainty can fuel curiosity, if that curiosity is calculated to render the unknown, known. Anyway, interesting to consider different models of how creativity/innovation might work.
